Greenville Christian School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities accorded or made available to students.  A person’s God-given racial or ethnic heritage is never a factor in admission, the administration of educational policies, or a student’s participation in school-sponsored activities.

We are a Christian school who partners with Christian families to educate their child/children and the education is provided on the foundation of a biblical worldview.

FAMILY REQUIREMENTS:

It is a requirement of the school that at least one parent is a follower of and believer in Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Adults living in the same household as a couple must be husband and wife.

It is also important that families who are applying for admission are also attending church on a regular basis, as the church is the divinely appointed central community for Christians, central support system, and central discipleship trainer.

Pre-testing is required to determine a student's grade level as well as their ability to succeed with the GCS curriculum. Please see the “Student Requirements” section below for more information.

Each year, a member of the School Board serves as Chairman of the Admissions Committee which supervises the admission of prospective students. In addition, the Chairman occasionally recommends admission policy changes to the Board.  Admission of new applicants is subject to approval by the Admission Committee and the School Board.

The school reserves the right to dismiss a family from enrollment when it is determined the family is in clear violation of the school's admission policies.

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS:

Greenville Christian School is equipped to effectively meet the educational and emotional needs of most, but not all prospective students; therefore we have the following admission requirements.

The following are factors we take into account: (for complete information, see the student handbook)

Scores on the school's entry test or evaluation. Previous and current scores on standardized achievement tests or college entrance tests may be accepted and are to be submitted when application is made.  A student whose scores do not fall within the average of the class for which he/she is enrolling may be held back one grade year if accepted for admission.
Students who are receiving accommodations when presented for enrollment should submit all documentation at the time of testing.

Pre-Kindergarten students ages 3 and 4:

  • must be at least three year of age (for PK3) or four years of age (for  PK4) on September 1 of the current school year,
  • must present a current immunization record on or before enrollment day,
  • must be able to take care of restroom needs independently,
  • must be reasonably able and willing to follow instruction and respect authority, and
  • must show age appropriate readiness and willingness to engage in learning activities.

Kindergarten students:

  • must be at least five years old on September 1 of the current year,
  • must present a current immunization record on or before registration day.
  • must pass the Kindergarten readiness test

1st – 12th grade:

  • Entering students will be given a placement test and should not score more than one grade lower than the age-appropriate class.
  • Re-testing may occur at the discretion of the Administration.
  • Students transferring from other school will need official records and documents from previously attended schools. The Administrative Assistant will request the records transfer from the school, and parents should help on an as-needed basis. Parents should supply records that are not available through the school.

Registration is not considered final until the following documents are on file in the school office:

  • transcripts from the schools previously attended (for home school transfers an accounting of courses taken is required)
  • most recent standardized test scores
  • copy of birth certificate
    current immunization record

Students in grades 7-12:

  • must submit three (3) recommendation forms attesting to character and two (2) forms from core subject teachers of the previous year.
  • Final grade placement will be determined by school personnel and after discussion with parents.
  • Grade placement will not be considered final until the student has successfully completed a full nine-week period at GC.  Should a change in grade placement be deemed necessary, parents will be notified before the end of the first nine-week period.
  • Students entering grades 7-12 will be included in the family interview.
  • GC may set probationary requirements where there are concerns academically and/or behaviorally.

LEARNING AND BEHAVIOR DIFFERENCES:

The school will consider a student for enrollment whose learning and/or behavior differences do not limit him from participating successfully in all classes and curriculum with accommodations rather than modifications. Behaviors that are continually disruptive to the classroom and/or are in clear violation of the Student Handbook cannot be accommodated.

The school's provisions for learning and behavior differences include:

  • Accommodations for students with a diagnosed learning difference.
  • Take Flight program for students diagnosed with dyslexia. (additional fee)
  • Collaborative behavior modification and development plan with parents/teachers/behavior professionals.
  • Collaborative accommodation meetings between parents, teachers, and students when of appropriate age.

The school reserves the right to dismiss a student at any time when the school determines the student cannot effectively be served by the school, and/or when the student is in violation of the school's policies.

For complete requirements, see the student handbook.
